The economics of a situation like this can do real damage to services. The old style systems for home health care are usually call centres. Call centres impose a second step to getting instant care when required. The preferred solution was a new system capable of the full spectrum communications service and preferably VOIP capabilities, to help establish direct contact with patients as soon as possible.
The new communications system had another, extremely important benefit for VNSNY- They saved at least $150,000 on operating costs in the first year, not including the overheads from a call centre which would have been incurred with a conventional old style system and the obvious improvements in cost efficiencies of both operational and administrative improvements.
The practical effect of this capability is that home health carers can now stream a whole range of data very fast and get operational solutions in place very quickly. For example, a housebound person can get full HPV treatment set up and integrated with the rest of the services at full speed, not through intermediate communications systems. That saves lives, and it drastically improves the efficiency of the core care service.
